Once the baby is born, all women go into breastmilk production mode. The first two weeks are the most critical time for establishing breastfeeding and good milk supply. Often when new moms come home from the hospital, it all seems so overwhelming. She is exhausted, her "milk has come in", and the medications of labour have worn off and suddenly her sleepy baby from the hospital is constantly awake and crying (all night!).
If you are having trouble with breastfeeding, get help fast! The sooner - the better!
It is important to seek help from people in the know! In the world of breastfeeding, the only health care professionals specifically trained as breastfeeding specialists are International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (also called IBCLCs).
